THE INDIGENOUS EXPERIENCE IN MOVIES

A small step towards establishment of right relationships with Indigenous peoples is to hear their stories and one way to hear stories is through movies.  Facilitiating these movie nights is a chance to see through the window of storytellers into the Canadian experience with this free movie series designed to open hearts, challenge thinking and prompt conversation.

In 2018 we showed three movies: SMOKE SIGNALS, BEFORE TOMORROW, AND WHALE RIDER.

Our last movie in this series, INDIAN HORSE was screened on March 19, 2019. The film evoked some intense thoughts, feelings and emotions which we shared with each other afterwards in Circle.

Our next movie is THE GRIZZLIES on Sun, Feb 23, 2020 at 1pm . This is a 2018 Canadian produced movie based on a true story of the youth in a small Inuit community in Northern Canada. The youth gain a sense of pride and purpose through the sport of lacrosse.  You are all welcome.

We will carry on this work at LVUC, so please watch for further events.
