Take part in Truth and Reconciliation Events in our Community
As part of Lynn Valley United Church's ongoing social justice efforts within our shared community, we would like to highlight some valuable Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day-focused events happening around the Lower Mainland. Please consider supporting the Indigenous community through participating in these engaging opportunities for connection.
1. Coast Salish Wool Weaving on September 19. "Learn about Coast Salish practices and the patience and skill that goes into traditional wool weaving, while creating your own custom piece. Led by Indigenous Cultural Programmer Jordan Dawson, learn more about Coast Salish practices and the patience and skill that goes into traditional wool weaving, while creating your own custom piece to take home."
2. September Eat Play Love at LVUC on September 23. "Join us for the first EPL session of the new season! This month, we'll be recognizing Orange Shirt Day as we acknowledge LVUC and the greater community's continued efforts towards reconciliation. Come celebrate this intergenerational gathering with crafting, games, and a delicious meal, followed by a short informal worship. Remember to wear your orange shirts!"
3. Truth and Reconciliation Day at MONOVA on September 30. "In honour of the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation, join us for a day of cultural experiences and reflection, led by MONOVA’s Indigenous Cultural Programmers, Jordan Dawson & Tsawaysia Spukwus. Visitors of all ages will be welcomed to engage in hands-on activities, guided tours, and thoughtful games developed to inspire meaningful dialogue about the history of Indigenous rights."
4. 2026 Intergenerational March to Commemorate Orange Shirt Day on September 30. "Join us for an Intergenerational March to commemorate Orange Shirt Day (OSD), hosted by the Faculties of Land and Food Systems and Forestry & Environmental Stewardship. The event reflects the Faculties’ commitment to the UBC Indigenous Strategic Plan and welcomes UBC community members, families and those in solidarity."
