Harvest Project is a community-based urban relief organization and registered Canadian charity. Since 1993, Harvest Project has been reaching out to those who are experiencing the challenges of family trauma, illness, job loss, and the threat of poverty. They connect with hundreds of people each month, providing one-to-one client coaching and active listening, a rent bank, a grocery-support program, clothing supports, assistance for workforce re-entry, food recovery and redistribution, and their retail Clothes for Change Thrift Boutique. Harvest Project is supported by volunteers and donors from every corner of the North Shore and from across Metro Vancouver and beyond.
The Harvest Project's upcoming Gifts of Love campaign is a unique opportunity for North Shore churches to show some extra love to Harvest Project's clients during the Christmas season. The Gifts of Love program is for families with children, as there is additional financial pressure on families during the Christmas season. This year, a Gift of Love is a box that includes a gift card ($25 per child in the family) and other items that fit into the box which would be appealing to the family and make their Christmas morning a little brighter.
Last year, many LVUC congregants contributed to Harvest Project's Gifts of Love program, and your generosity was very much appreciated. We have signed up to provide Gifts of Love boxes for eight different families this year. If you would like to financially contribute to the Gifts of Love program, please indicate that your monetary donation is for "Harvest Project Gifts of Love". Donations for this program will be accepted until Sunday, November 9.
We will also be getting a headstart on fundraising through our upcoming Soups of Love on October 19 after church. This by-donation soup extravaganza will feature tasty buns and several delicious soups (made from the harvest vegetables that were donated at Thanksgiving) with proceeds going towards the Gifts of Love project.
The week before November 15, we will be assembling the Gifts of Love boxes at church. If you would like to volunteer to help with assembly or if you have any questions, please speak to Joe Catlin or an LVUC staff member.
Thank you for all your past and future support as we work together to make the season merrier for local families!
