Community Partnership in Support of Lookout Shelter in NV
The Lookout shelter in North Vancouver is in regular need of personal care/hygiene items, clothing and bedding. LVUC will be participating in an initiative with St. David’s United Church that Leslie B as Coordinator of Community Partnerships has started. This initiative is drawing together communities of faith on the North Shore to regularly support the Lookout Shelter in their work for the homeless and underhoused. Currently 30% of those receiving support from the Lookout on the North Shore are seniors.
Leslie B, as part of this initiative, will do the following:
- Drop off a donation box for items.
- Regularly email us a list of the most needed items to donate.
- Pick up collected items and deliver them to the Lookout Shelter.
- Track everything collected and send out a report of totals every few months.
Lookout Housing and Health Society
Lookout Housing and Health Society is a non-profit charitable organization established in 1971. They offer a range of programs, housing and health solutions to vulnerable adults living with multiple challenges. On the North Shore Outreach workers assist homeless individuals living on the streets and in the woods to become housed, while then providing wrap around support services that provide stability. Whether housed or not, Outreach works with each individual to ensure they receive necessary supports.
The North Shore team also provides “deep woods” services as many of their guests live in local ravines and forests, often resistant to moving from their camps into a shelter or housing. North Shore’s outreach team operates in District of North Vancouver, City of North Vancouver, District of West Vancouver and Squamish Nation.
Emergency Shelters – Open Year Round
Lookout makes a concerted effort to focus on case plans and work with clients to find suitable housing options – a challenge given the lack of affordable housing in the Lower Mainland.
