And God saw that it was good!

Yoga on Sunday night was the last of the Creation series. Niki read the opening passages and it said that “God looked at what they had created and it was good. And then they rested”.

The Certificate Ceremony this past Sunday represented another major stepping stone along the journey of becoming an Affirming Congregation. The Affirming Ministry Committee began their work 2 1⁄2 years ago. I don’t think any of us dreamt of just how wonderful and wonder-filled this journey would be.

God knew it would be good.

Our Committee never dreamt that we would be doing this work through a pandemic. We had visions of workshops and congregational meetings and luncheons. That didn’t happen but we had moving experiences with Lauren Kirkey and Lisa Salazar via Zoom. We gathered with like-minded Christians in the Queer Virtue seminars. We wrote articles and inspired each other.  We made friends, amazing new people who have walked through our doors, and we have been so blessed by their friendship.  One of the things we learned on this journey is that this congregation would come to recognize that the blessings of welcome would be twofold: the blessings we receive through our new friendships go both ways.

Listening to Jess’s story. Watching Kane moved to tears, we understand the profound depth of this work we undertake. This is God’s work. This is Love in action.  We rest this week and then we pick up our thinking caps and notebooks, open up our hearts and look forward to the next idea, challenge, and prayer that comes to mind. God sees that this is good. God rejoices and we reap the rewards.

Our household was very pumped after this joyous and exciting weekend. What a happy experience Sunday was. The church looked amazing, the service was beautiful, the songs were lovely. Everyone seemed so happy. Lynn Valley UNITED church lived up to its name as everyone celebrated together.
So many worked so hard for this day to happen, long before Annie and I first set foot through the door. We are both so grateful to have found this wonderful community of worship.
