Happy New Year!
The church liturgical calendar begins with the Season of Advent; a time of preparation and waiting... it is the time when the church re-tells the stories of the birth of Jesus, a time that is sometimes called the birth of the light that darkenss cannot extinguish. From description of political intrigue to prophecies and miracles, God was in the mix ...and God continues to call to us still through these centuries old texts. The Seasons of Advent and Christmas end with the day that celebrates the baptism of Jesus by his cousin, John. Here are the readings selected:
- November 27, Advent I - Hope - Luke 2: 1-21
- December 4, Advent II - Peace - Matthew 1:18-24
- December 11, Advent III- Joy - Luke 1:26-56
- Devember 18, Advent IV - Love - Luke 2: 22-38
- December 25 Christmas Day! Matthew 2:1-10
- January 1, Sunday after Christmas- Matthew 2: 13-23
- January 8, Baptism of Jesus Sunday- Matthew 3: 13-17
Wherever you are on your own journey, there is a place for you here.
