Love Letters to the Church ....
A summer sermon series at LVUC until August 7 called “Love Letters to the Church” explores two of Paul’s letters: to the Galatians and the Colossians. Through this series, the people of Lynn Valley United are considering these texts, and are invited to write a love letter to the congregation - with words of hope, and encouragement, as this community prepares to move into our building.
If you're part of the Waves group, centering prayer, or want to read through the scriptures on your own, here are the readings:
- May 29, Galatians 1:1-12
- June 5, Corinthians 3:10-23
- June 12, Galatians 1:11-24
- June 19, Galatians 2:15-21
- June 26, Galatians 3:23-29
- July 3, Galatians 5:1, 13-25
- July 10, Galatians 6:(1-6), 7-16
- July 17, Colossians 1:1-14
- July 24, Colossians 1:15-28
- July 31, Colossians 2:6-15, (16-19)
- August 7, Colossians 3:1-11
Questions to consider include - How does the gospel of Jesus Christ play out in your life? From your perspective, how is the gospel seeking to be proclaimed in our time and place? What is the good news that is longing to be heard? What words of encouragement would you offer the people of LVUC preparing to move into a building that stands as a bold reminder of God in the midst of the community? In the manner of the ancient texts, and as a disciple of Christ, what letter would you write to LVUC? Exerpts of these letters wil be included in Sunday worship.
Acting on the Word of God....
Continuing through the rest of the summer, we will explore themes of what it means to be a "doer" rather than to passively accept scripture by listening or reading only. The scriptures will be:
- August 14, James 1: 21b-25
- August 21 , Acts 6:1-7
- August 28, 1 Cor: 12:14-20
- September 4, Luke 10:25-37
- September 11, Matthew 28:16-20
(*September 11 kicks off the "Season of Compassion"- watch for more details, soon!)
