THE Transaction
Our Current Sermon Series

In the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, God undertakes a transaction with the world.  In the death and resurrection of Christ God enters a unilateral agreement that no longer requires the “right” action of God’s people.  In Christ, God does for God’s people what they could not do for them selves.  God saves, God redeems, God restores.  Mark’s gospel gives ample post-Easter testimony that when God’s people are physically isolated from one another, the risen Christ appears in re-counting the story.

April 19 Christ Saves:
Mark 2:1-12

The Greek word for save in the Christian scriptures is sozo, which means “salve” or healing balm.  Christ’s salvation comes when we are freed from all that harms us. And sometimes we are cured.

April 26 - Christ Redeems:
Mark 7:24 – 30

The foreigner teaches Jesus one of his most important lessons – “God so loved the world….”

May 3 - Christ Restores:
Mark 5:1-20 Holy Communion

When the worst thing that could happen, has happened, and the world has turned its back on you, Christ releases the old story, and we get to go home.  This series will end with the celebration of Holy Communion.
