Hi, I am your companion for the journey Rev. Franklyn James. I hailed from Kingston, Jamaica. My journey to Canada began in the gracious and beautiful Bracebridge United Church, Ontario in September 2015. After I was nurtured by the congregation, I went back to Jamaica in 2016 and then returned to the Okanagan, BC in 2017. I worked a combined four years as the Minister at St. Andrew’s United Church, Enderby and Zion United Church, Armstrong, BC.
In July 2021, I took the bold step in accepting the call to be the Coordinating Minister at Lynn Valley United Church. Trained in Education, Theology, and Counselling. I have integrated my training, experiences, and skills to ensure the development of people in a holistic way. A strong advocate of problem-solving and self-directed learning that provide learners with opportunities to use information gained in everyday life and to help others.
I am an artist in the sense that I see as an artist. While others look at life's straight lines, their height, depth, and width, I bend the lines with my imagination turning black and white into shades of colors. I possess the ability to pique everyone's curiosity with my original and inventive ways of thinking. But left on my own, I will opt for the eccentric or avant-garde. It is from this unique perspective that I can say to you, whoever you are and wherever you are on your faith journey, there is a place for you at Lynn Valley United Church. In our spaces and places of interaction, I will encourage and support a “Proud, Bold & Free community.
Proud – Proud of the God we serve, the community we are, and the mission God gave us.
Bold– Bold in our vision to be God-fearing, inclusive, counter-cultural, and subversive.
Free- Free to be our unique authentic self. Bringing all who we are to God and community; our human differences, sexual and gender identity, and our cultural and ethnic heritage.
When I tell people there is a place for everyone here at Lynn Valley United Church, we mean it.
