Just wanting to share this picture from a recent outing by members of the Pastoral Care Team to a care home to visit elders no longer able to attend church, where you can see Goldie Dixon, now 104 years of age, honoured with laying the wreath at the facility's Remembrance Day Service last week. Not in the picture, but attending the same service, Anita Ridd read "In Flanders Field."
Goldie was a long time member of Lynn Valley United until about 15 years ago, when vision, hearing and mobility challenges made church attendance too difficult. She served in the Second World War as Canada's first ever female Sergeant Major and is one of North Vancouver's oldest surviving veterans.
Anita was one of Lynn Valley United's TWIGS (Tuesday Women's Interest Group), and many of you may have seen her at a fair number of services at Cardinal Hall and since we moved into the building before a third stroke 18 months ago landed her in permanent residence at the facility.
What a blessing the Pastoral Care Team is to our congregation and to our extended "church family." Thanks to all who visit, write cards, knit, pray and keep us connected!
