For the month of September, we will be exploring the theme of Renewal and Commitment: Like a Healing Stream. The song that inspires this theme, and will be a central part is More Voices 144 — “Like a Healing Stream.” This follows August’s series, “Emancipation: Help me Sing a Song of Freedom”.  Renewal and Commitment is calling us to self and collective renewal in our faith and spiritual life. It is also a call to live into the commitment we made to God, the church, and each other at the beginning of our faith journey.

Renewal and Commitment will be explored in a season that is commonly called “The Season of Creation”— a season that has been celebrated between September 1 and St. Francis of Assisi Day on October 4.  During this period, we are invited to celebrate the mysteries and wonders of creation with God, Christ, and the Holy Spirit. In addition, on
September 30, 2022, we will be celebrating the Indigenous holiday “National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.” The day honors the lost children and survivors of residential schools, their families, and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.

Renewal and Commitment: Like a Healing Stream, the Season of Creation, and The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation issue the same call to action; a call to honor the Creator, celebrate God’s creation, and live into the commitments we made as a treaty people, and to engage in processes of healing and reconciliation.
