How deep is your love?
The BeeGees asked a great question all those years ago, but people always seem to want to go deeper.
It is possible to:
But lately, I have been seeking a deeper spirituality.
It is a very human thing to want more (better, faster, higher, etc..) than the human beside you, but my feeling is there is no competitive edge when it comes to connection to the divine. Because it is such an intensely personal thing- your relationship with God (or whatever name you use for that ‘higher power’)- it is only you who can say how deep the connection is and if it is deeper than before.
When I began Centering Prayer as a regular practice many years ago, I was very prescriptive with it. As my experience evolved, I found myself less concerned with duration and more attentive to getting to “that place” of what feels, to me, like complete release. That is my practice.
When the new church building opened and the labyrinth became accessible to me, I walked it frequently, wondering if I was doing it right. It was months before I felt comfortable with the unanswerable nature of the practice and the rituals I’ve developed over time are what make it deeply meaningful for me. That is my practice.
I don't do yoga, or Healing Pathways (faith healing), or nature bathing, or speaking in tongues or fasting.... those are just some of the ways others find deeper connection. There are litterally millions of ways to connect to the innate divine spark I call God. And I wholeheartedly believe that God wants a relationship with humanity, too… the longing to connect built into our DNA. And once you have a taste of that connection, you want to build on it and go deeper. Regular practices that support your connection and “going deeper” are a necessary part of the process.
The upcoming “Soul Spa” might be a helpful event for you if you are looking for new ways to re-connect or open your spirit to ways to connect with God. Find more details HERE or consider the Centre for Spiritual Practices at Lynn Valley United as a resource for your spiritual wellness.
