Acknowledge Wrongdoing and Seek Right Relationships

We took a step in our long journey to reconciliation last Sunday as we gathered in our Sacred Space and opened our hearts in a Cleansing Ceremony held after our service conducted by Tsleil-Waututh Nation Knowledge Keeper Sam George and his brother Les.

Sam spoke of how he felt welcomed in this place, which he had initially felt very reluctant to enter, reflecting on how the church has not always felt like a safe place for his people.

A full house was present. Rhelda and Taylor assisted in the cleansing of the banner made by Myrna -- “Acknowledge Wrongdoing and Seek Right Relationship”, -- using cedar boughs to sprinkle the banner with clean water, to the beat of the drum.  Sam spoke of how heavy is the work of acknowledging the burdens from the past and he performed the ceremony over Myrna, to cleanse her of the heaviness.

The banner will hang in our sacred space. Please stop by to take a look if you have not seen it already.

The ceremony over, we feasted on the banquet laid out by the Social Justice Team.
