The story in Genesis 9:1-17 speaks about a covenant with all creation, under the rainbow.  It raises the question of the nature of humanity's partnership with God in caring for and the conservation of the earth.

The covenant is striking in its inclusivity.  The rainbow covenant represents radical inclusivity in the heart of a narrative shaped by nationalism, gender, and cultural bias.  The covenant between God and all flesh is between God and every person for all time.

Another thing about this rainbow covenant sealed the relationship between God and God's creatures.  One important point that stood out in this covenant is that it's entirely God's doing.  God enters into an eternal covenant with all creation without requiring anything in return.

This is the ultimate expression of love.
