A Spiritual Experience In Hospitality

A Spiritual Experience In Hospitality

Do you help with hosting events at LVUC? Do you offer your gifts to help create a spiritual experience for our guests? Are you prepared for a new season of activities at LVUC?

You are invited to this workshop on the Saturday before Welcome Sunday (Sept 16th) for a spritual experience in hospitality, in time for us to be more prepared to welcome our guests on September 17. The invitation is open to all those who are involved in supporting worship through hospitality, greeting, ushering, setup, or facilitating other programsand events at LVUC.

The board has identified a key priority for LVUC over the next year is how we host events and welcome newcomers into our community. The spiritual practice of hospitality is something we can all use to welcome guests regardless of our role or the event we are hosting.

This poem by Rumi gets to the heart of being prepared to welcome whoever shows up at the door.

The Guest House

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice.
meet them at the door laughing and invite them in.

Be grateful for whatever comes.
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.
